Trailblazers in Spirits: The Legacy of Corkdorks 'Women in Whiskey'

Back in 2013, Corkdorks' 'Women in Whiskey' event was established, marking its own day as part of the already acclaimed Nashville Whiskey Festival. The Nashville Whiskey Festival itself began two years prior, and the introduction of 'Women in Whiskey' came during the early movement of women distillers in the early 2010s. Corkdorks recognized the need and opportunity to lead in highlighting this growing movement, creating an event that was truly ahead of its time.

The inaugural 'Women in Whiskey' event took place at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN. The original panel featured influential women from the whiskey industry, including Stephanie Ridgeway, Brand Manager and Ambassador for Highland Park Scotch; Allison Patel, owner of Brenne Whiskey and whiskey blogger at Whisky Girls; Hollis Bulleit, a trailblazer in the brown spirits industry; Troy Ball, owner and distiller of Troy & Sons Whiskey out of Asheville; and Jenny Pennington from Nashville's own Whisper Creek. These panelists shared their experiences and discussed the challenges they faced as powerful movers and shakers in a largely male-dominated industry. Attendees also had the opportunity to engage with these experts during a Q&A session, making the event both informative and interactive.

This pioneering event not only celebrated the contributions of women in the whiskey industry but also paved the way for future generations of women distillers and brand ambassadors. The 'Women in Whiskey' event continues to be a highlight of the Nashville Whiskey Festival, showcasing brands like Whisper Creek, Bulleit, and Troy & Sons, and underscoring the significant impact women have made and continue to make in the world of whiskey.
